iStatus Desktop monitors your network connectivity, lets you know when network connectivity issues arise, and helps you troubleshoot problems. It is a very handy tool for anyone who wants easy access to internet status information. It runs in the background and brings up popup notifications when your internet connection goes down.

Download an installer, run it, follow a setup wizard’s instructions; these are the steps you must go through to get iStatus Desktop up and running on your Windows PC. And once you have iStatus Desktop up and running, you can use it for free for a trial period of 30 days.

The following buttons are presented at the top on iStatus Desktop’s good looking interface:
Overview – see if the LAN gateway is up, see if your connection to the internet and your ISP (internet service provider) is up, see a rating for your internet connection.
Details – more information about how you connect to the web and how long it takes to reach a list of hosts (you can customize this list of monitored hosts).
Troubleshooting steps – you won’t see anything here is everything works correctly.
Alerts – this is where you’re going to see various alerts if connectivity issues are detected.
Settings – access various settings that govern how iStatus Desktop works.
About – see what iStatus Desktop version you’re using, check for updates, access links to the Thinix and iStatus websites.

ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) poisoning is a form of man-in-the-middle attack. iStatus Desktop protects against such an attack by employing ARPWatch technology. ARPWatch protects and notifies you when it detects security issues such as ARP poisoning.

iStatus Desktop, as mentioned above, is free to use for a trial period of 30 days. I bring this up again because I want to add something. Thinix has two network monitoring products to offer: iStatus Desktop and iStatus Cloud.

Thanks to iStatus Desktop you know if your internet connection is working fine, you can monitor certain hosts, you get notifications when the internet connection goes down, you’re presented with troubleshooting steps, and you’re even protected against ARP poisoning.

Pros

You won’t have any problems installing iStatus Desktop on your Windows PC. The interface is good looking, provides support for multiple languages, and is very easy to navigate. There are lots of settings to play with. Monitor a custom list of hosts/websites. Get notifications when your internet connection goes down. ARPWatch technology is used to protect against ARP poisoning.

Cons

Trial limitations: 30-day trial, nag screen.
